121 Listening

NISCU’s 121 Listening service trains volunteers to listen to young people in a schools context, and then places them in their local school to support the pastoral work.

Can you help your young people by listening?

“Listening looks easy, but it’s not simple. Every head is a world.”

— Cuban Proverb

We can train you to be effective listeners in your school community.

“The most basic of all human needs is the need to understand and be understood. The best way to understand people is to listen to them.”

— Ralph Nichols

121 Listening

“Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.”

Winston Churchill

What is it about?

121 Listening is a service that NISCU oversees in providing volunteers to schools for the simple task of listening to pupils in a school context.

We work alongside school pastoral teams to support the ongoing work within the school.

We take local volunteers, and train them to listen using an Active Reflective Listening model of effective listening, and then apply it specifically to a schools context.
