Today is Education Sunday. This has led me to thinking about education and learning and I wondered when you last learned something new? This might have been hard, frustrating, easy, fun, boring, a challenge, necessary… (insert your word of choice). It will definitely have involved someone, in some context, a teacher, coach, mentor, encourager, you tube creator … supporting you.

The Bible doesn’t say a great deal about Jesus as a child or young person. However, in Luke 2 v 52 it says, ‘Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man’. His earthly father Joseph was a carpenter, so would have had lots of skills to teach Jesus, skills that involved using dangerous tools!  The same chapter also explains that Jesus spent lots of time learning from teachers in the temple about his Heavenly Father (whilst worrying his parents who thought they had lost him!)

So, on Education Sunday let’s pray for and encourage all of those we know who attend school, either as learners, teachers, support staff, volunteers or NISCU staff and volunteers. Let’s thank God for them and pray that like Jesus they all grow in ‘wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.’
