A Busy Day:

Today’s Verse

“Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to

Matthew 14:22-23(NIV)

Today’s thought:

Firstly…It is good to read the whole passage!! v 22-33…

Secondly, it is also good in this case to get the context of where we are starting from by reading the bit before…14 v 1-21.

Here we find that Jesus had had a very busy day, emotionally (hearing about John), physically (going to a solitary place, and healing the sick and preaching until evening), expectationally (there would have been a lot of demands placed on Jesus to do all the stuff he did). And on top of it all, He just wanted to get away from everyone and be on His own, to grieve.

This is where we start…already a busy day!

And, I’m guessing that actually, Jesus does something next that I would probably do myself, after a demanding and busy day…

…..’immediately’ Jesus get’s rid of the disciples, and dismisses the crowd!

Phew at last…time for me.

But next, even though it was late, presumably He was tired, maybe fed up, and just maybe wanted some time to lie down and close His eyes, maybe even to cry. He does something ‘different’…

…He now goes on a mountainside alone to pray.

Today’s prayer:

You may have had a busy day too, with pressures and stresses…

…well, spend a moment to ‘dismiss’ them all, and come to the Father alone to pray.

As you pray, think of the people who needed Jesus to change their lIves in this story, the impact that would have had on them for years to come, and for those in your community who you know, (or don’t) who desperately need Him today.
