The angels came proclaiming good news that will cause great joy to all people, but is Christmas really good news for all people? In all the festivities and busyness of Christmas, the reality is, Christmas can be a very stressful and anxiety inducing time for lots of people, particularly financially.

This season we will be taking the true meaning of Christmas to children in various schools who will not receive Christmas presents or indulge in big Christmas dinners. CAP debt coach Lou Mosey recounts a recent visit that shows the impact this season can have on many people and families:

‘How often do you leave the house?’ Suzie (debt coach) asked our new client today.

‘I’ve been out once in the last 2 years’ he replied.

He was pale and frail with his commode by his side.

Once upon a time, he worked at the hospital, had 5 children, had a best friend who lit up his life. Now he has debt, MS, a badly healed broken arm, memories of a lost best friend, grown up children with busy lives. TV, carers and pain are his companions.

He didn’t want us to pray. He told us he just believes in heaven and hell, he can imagine his best friend in heaven that way.

‘Christmas is coming’ sounds like bad news when you’re in debt because spending = Happy Christmas….

Christians Against Poverty is a national debt help charity. We recognise that December is a tough month for our clients and we give them food vouchers, a Christmas party and hampers and look for opportunities to show them why Christmas is good news.

Please pray with us for all those receiving the true meaning of Christmas from various ministries this season and those who will find this time hard.
