International Dance Day (29th April)
Here is a post from Schools Worker and Dance Teacher Holly in North Lancs who brings dance clubs to schools to teach and express the gospel!
Dance is a gift given to human beings. The ability to move, sway, shake, coordinate (or not!) your body to music (or not!) is unique to the human species. Have you tried it? Do you shine and come alive when you dance? Do you curl up in a ball of worry and fear at the word ‘dance’? Do you see its beauty, power and potential? It can be used to express a truthful and meaningful message, tell a story, or express a feeling. It can inspire viewers and participants, and motivate. It can inspire us to see God in a new way, or to connect & relate to Him afresh.
Dance does not always have to be done to music, but it often is because music and dance are like a marriage – they work so well together. Music can often motivate the types of movement one makes, and therefore the choice and style of song(s) matter.
That is why I love teaching dance with a Niscu club. I have the beautiful opportunity to choose rich and wonderful music, songs prayerfully written and created that echo the love, glory & beauty of our Father, Saviour and Friend. To create movement and dances motivated by our faith and these songs, is one of the most blessed and richest gifts I have been given to share. I am filled with joy to do such a task; and as I watch my students learn both how to move their body mindfully while communicating wholesome, wholehearted truth of the gospel, I am in awe.
