‘Wow…only a few weeks to Christmas’, or should that be ‘Oh no…only a few weeks to Christmas’?
Whichever side of delight, stress or pain you fall in to over this period, one thing we can be sure of is that Christmas happened 2000 years ago, and Christmas will happen again this year.
The original Christmas seemed to look very different to our modern Christmas’s, but at least two things have stayed the same.
- Jesus came to this earth, and
- He came to an earth full of humans with human frailties, successes, joys and failures.
As Jesus grew up and started His ministry, it seems that He spent most of His time speaking to crowds, discipling his followers, and listening to individuals in their frailties, successes, joys and failures.
Over December, NISCU seek to do the same, speaking to crowds in collective worships, puppet assemblies and lessons (last year we did 180 of these through December).
We will be discipling pupils in clubs (last year we did 86 of these through December) and we will be listening to individuals (last year we listened to 95 pupils).å
I find it incredible that we can do so much to tell and show pupils that Jesus came and is still interested in us as people, and He is interested in them as individuals.
Could you pray for us, teachers and pupils, as we talk to them, and pray particularly for the volunteers who simply listen? I cannot stress how important and needed listening is. Many pupils can find the time over Christmas very difficult, and for them to have an adult with them to listen is incredibly powerful in sharing God’s care for them.
